Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear?
Wear something comfortable that allows you to move.
Depending on what we're working on, your appointment may include movement assessment or exercise alongside hands-on treatment.
Comfortable training clothes, shorts or a T-shirt work well.
What can a session at HART MVMT include?
Your session is shaped around you, your goals and what we identify together.
Depending on what we're working toward, that may include massage therapy, movement assessment, mobility work, strength-based exercise or education.
Some sessions may be primarily hands-on. Others may include more movement, assessment or exercise.
The tools can change. The intention stays the same.
We understand the why and choose the how accordingly.
What are you looking for when you assess me?
Capacity.
I'm interested in understanding how your body functions today and what you'd like it to be capable of.
Assessment gives us useful information about movement, control, strength and the physical demands you're preparing for.
It helps us understand where you're starting and identify opportunities to build.
I believe your body is adaptable, and that understanding it creates opportunities for growth.
The goal is greater awareness, confidence and capacity.
Do I need to be athletic?
People come to HART MVMT with all kinds of goals and backgrounds.
Your goal might be lifting weights, running or martial arts.
It might also be hiking, working comfortably, playing with your kids, gardening or feeling strong and capable throughout your life.
Whatever your starting point, we can find a meaningful direction forward.
What if I've already tried physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy or other care?
Bring that experience with you.
What you've already explored can give us useful information about your body, your experiences and how you've responded to different approaches.
We'll talk about what you've learned, what felt useful and what you're still curious about.
Then we'll start where you are today and build from there.
How often will I need to come?
That depends on you and what you're here for.
Some people come in for a specific concern or goal. Some use massage therapy alongside their training. Others value regular treatment as part of taking care of themselves.
We'll discuss what makes sense for your goals, preferences and response to care, and revisit that plan as things progress.
My intention is to help you develop greater understanding, capacity and confidence over time.
The goal is for what we build together to become yours.
Does treatment need to be painful to be effective?
Effective treatment doesn't have to hurt.
There's no good scientific evidence that massage therapy needs to be painful to produce meaningful results. More pressure or greater discomfort doesn't automatically mean better outcomes.
Some techniques may create unfamiliar or uncomfortable sensations, but intensity is never the goal.
I work with you, paying attention to your feedback, comfort and how your body responds. We can adjust pressure, technique and pace throughout your session.
Together, we move at the speed of your body.
The intention is to create a treatment experience that feels collaborative, respectful and useful to you.
